The winning technology of the Madone Gen 8

As light as the Émonda
The Madone Gen 8 is as light as the current Émonda SLR frameset and 320 grams lighter than the previous Madone frameset thanks to the all-new OCLV 900 Series Carbon and radical new tube profile design. It also climbs like a dream, so even the Émonda fans will be impressed.

As fast as the Madone Gen 7
The Madone Gen 8 is 77 seconds per hour faster than the Émonda and just as fast as the previous Madone. It redefines “fast” thanks to the new Full System Foil aero profiles. Plus, the new RSL aero bottles and bottle cages (included with the Madone SLR) mean the entire ride system is faster on every bike.

Lighter and more comfortable IsoFlow technology
Even lighter and up to 80% more vertically compliant than before, the Madone Gen 8's updated IsoFlow technology dampens road imperfections so you can ride longer and stronger.

New lighter and more ergonomic handlebar/stem
The Madone SLR models put riders in the ultimate aero position thanks to an updated integrated Aero RSL Road bar and stem made from ultralight OCLV Carbon. With ultra-fast aero tube profiles and brake lever bodies that are 3cm narrower than the drops (the same as the Gen 7 drops shape), they offer optimal ergonomics and performance.

The ultimate race bike at the ultimate price
The all-new Madone SL features the same revolutionary frame technology as the SLR model, but keeps costs down with more affordable 500 Series OCLV Carbon and two-piece bar/stem combos. The SL models are also compatible with mechanical shifting.
Madone Gen 8 FAQ
A new bike raises many new questions - here is an overview of the most important ones:
What is different about the Madone Gen 8 compared to the Madone Gen 7?
The Madone Gen 8 scores with several new features:
- 900 Series OCLV Carbon on the SLR
- lightweight aerodynamic full system foil tube profiles
- improved IsoFlow comfort technology is now lighter and more flexible
- Trek RSL Aero water bottle and holder system (included with the SLR, available as an accessory for the SL)
- RSL Aero handlebar/stem is lighter and more ergonomic (included with the SLR)
- universal derailleur hanger
- beveled Switch Pro Premium thru axles
- RCS Headset System
- max. 32 mm (width as measured) tire clearance
Does the Madone Gen 8 replace the Émonda?
The Madone Gen 8 replaces both the Madone Gen 7, which is of interest to aero-conscious riders, and the Émonda, which is relevant to weight-conscious riders. It combines the advantages of the new Madone and the new Émonda in a groundbreaking road bike.
How much does the frameset weigh?
Madone SLR Gen 8 in size M/L with the finish Matte Gloss/Carbon Smoke (without fasteners):
- Frame: 796 g
- Fork: 350 g
Why are there only six frame sizes instead of eight?
After taking a closer look at our size and geometry charts, we decided to simplify the stack and reach measurements in our current range to six frame sizes without significantly impacting fit. The 52cm and 54cm frame sizes have been combined to form size M, and frame size 62cm has been replaced by the new frame size XL. The XL frame comes with a longer seatpost, allowing riders who previously rode a Madone Gen 7 with a 62cm frame to achieve the same maximum saddle height. This new sizing system covers the same range of fits as the previous eight sizes, but it is now easier to find the right frame size due to less overlap.
Are there any changes in the geometry?
The Madone geometry is now referred to as "Road Race", which is a bit more descriptive than the previous designation "H1.5". The Road Race geometry allows for a very similar fast and aggressive riding position to the H1.5 geometry.
Is IsoFlow adjustable?
No, IsoFlow is already optimally adjusted for a balanced ratio of aerodynamics, weight and comfort for all frame sizes.
Is there an internal storage compartment?
No
What's the deal with aerodynamic water bottles and bottle holders?
The all-new Trek RSL Aero bottles included with the Madone SLR Gen 8 hold 595 ml each. They are BPA free, dishwasher safe and fit seamlessly onto the Madone Gen 8's Full System Foil tube profiles. The bottles fit perfectly into the included carbon RSL Aero bottle cages, which can also accommodate standard round bottles. The bottle cages are attached to slots using round head screws and can be moved up and down on the different frame sizes to achieve the most aerodynamic bottle position possible. The RSL Aero bottles and bottle cages will be available as aftermarket products for the Madone SL Gen 8.
What is the RCS headset system? Which stems are compatible with this bike?
With the introduction of the Madone SLR/SL Gen 8, the new RCS Headset System simplifies and standardizes the parts required for the various cockpit setups of the different models and platforms.
- RCS Race: For use with the new RSL Aero handlebar/stem unit (on the Madone SLR Gen 8 ex works).
- RCS Pro: For use with the current RCS Pro Blendr stem (on the Madone SL Gen 8 from the factory).
- RCS Universal: For use with conventional round stems.
Trek road bike frames designed for the RCS Headset System use a standard headset bearing cover and matching spacers depending on the stem type installed (see above). This means you always know exactly which parts you need to swap the cockpit between models/platforms with the RCS Headset System. The Madone is just the beginning, so keep an eye out for future Trek road bikes that are compatible with the RCS Headset System. For more information and corresponding part numbers, see the service manual.
What's new with the RSL Aero handlebar/stem unit?
The handlebar/stem unit saves weight and improves aerodynamics thanks to a new blunted design. Reach, drop and flare remain unchanged compared to the handlebar/stem of the Madone Gen 7. It also comes with an improved Blendr mount. Note: Due to the new blunted shape, the handlebar/stem unit is 4 mm higher than its predecessor.
What can I do if I don't want a 4mm higher handlebar?
We have developed a special RCS Race Low bearing cover that compensates for the 4mm rise in the handlebar/stem unit. This RCS Race Low bearing cover is only available as an aftermarket part and is not included with the bikes. The part number and fitting instructions can be found in the service manual.
