Reasons for buying a frame
The frame is the heart of the bicycle and, together with the fork and wheels, forms the basis for the chassis. Depending on the area of application and the requirements, a wide variety of frame types and materials are used. By choosing the frame, you are laying the crucial foundation for efficient and dynamic cycling. In the Liquid-Life Shop you can get a variety of different models for almost every purpose. No matter whether it's cyclocross, enduro or downhill, with the frames we have available you can finally build your dream bike to measure.
Why actually buy a frame when there are so many first-class complete bikes available in the shop? A legitimate and often asked question that we are of course happy to answer. The complete bikes in our shop leave nothing to be desired - and yet there are always parts that could be designed more individually. Many riders don’t want an “off-the-shelf” bike with defined parts, but rather want to build their dream bike themselves. This not only applies to the selection of parts as such, but also to the work. Working on your own bike is simply fun - and to ensure that it works perfectly, you will of course also find the right tools and workshop equipment in our shop.
Another reason is replacing the “old” frame with a new frame. The reasons for this could be a defective frame or the desire to have a more modern geometry, for example. Of course, it must be clarified in advance whether the old parts can simply be taken over. This is not always the case! The dimensions of the head tube and bottom bracket must be taken into account here, as well as the existing hubs and the current wheel size - the seat tube can also have a different dimension. If something doesn't fit, you'll of course find the right replacement in our shop. Another reason for buying a frame can simply be that the desired frame is not installed in a complete bike. The best example of this is certainly the new Trek Session DH frame 2018!
The frame: a question of material
Bicycle frames are made from a wide variety of materials. Steel frames are primarily used in inexpensive bicycles. Steel is very stable, but unfortunately also heavy. Butted tubes, which have a thinner wall thickness in the middle area, help to save some weight while maintaining stability. This technology is also used in aluminum frames, although the original material is already significantly lighter than steel. The most modern manufacturing processes allow the production of hydroformed aluminum frames that are not only very light and extremely robust, but also look extremely good. The most expensive and lightest are frames made of high-quality carbon.
Manufacturers use a wide variety of technologies during production. The name HPA used by Cube refers to a high-performance aluminum that can be designed to be load-oriented using advanced hydroforming. The result is extremely light, stable and stiff frames. The differences are huge, not only with aluminum, but also with carbon. The US manufacturer Trek, for example, makes its carbon frames from OCLV Carbon, one of the best frame materials ever. The patented carbon fiber process is based on over 25 years of experience in carbon frame construction.
The frame: Also a question of the right size and coordination
A bicycle is like a pair of shoes: it has to fit! A fact that primarily concerns the frame. While components such as the stem or handlebars can be subsequently adjusted (i.e. replaced) relatively inexpensively and easily, this option is virtually eliminated for frames alone for cost reasons. The frame size determines performance, safety and driving experience. Success cannot be achieved with a frame that is either too small or too large. Roughly speaking, of course, a smaller frame size promotes a sportier riding style, while a larger frame size offers more comfort and an upright sitting posture.
Of course, we won't leave you alone with the question of the ideal frame size - this decision is too important and sustainable. With our size calculation you can quickly determine the ideal frame size for you with just a few mouse clicks. No matter whether it's a mountain bike, trekking bike or racing bike, you're definitely in the right place with our values! Our service also includes the fact that, at your request, we will tailor the chassis perfectly to you. Buying a frame in the Liquid-Life Shop can be so easy, safe and risk-free!
