In addition to work and everyday life, spending free time together is an important source of emotional closeness and enjoyment for couples. It is not for nothing that there are more and more riding technique courses and tours for ladies, couples and even kids! But of course biking together also carries risks that can cause arguments and stress. But as in everyday life, this can be solved with healthy communication!

It goes downhill and uphill – just like in real life and like in every relationship. These shared experiences bond us together and the resulting memories last! However, there is often a gap in terms of bike experience , determination in mentally demanding passages and riding technique level. This in turn leads to problems and you certainly don’t want to have any of those in your free time. It’s good that bike schools like Liquid Life have the right riding technique courses for this. In the efficient couples course, the more experienced partner finds areas to work on and is given tasks to push themselves to the next level. Meanwhile, for the less confident participant, it’s all about safety, positive feelings and flow . Because men often have advantages not only in terms of strength, experience and excess testosterone, but also when it comes to the vehicle. It is not uncommon for partners to ride their partner's old bike or an older bike from a colleague instead of modern mountain bikes . If both ride similarly high-quality bikes, you often see that the husband's bike has already been tuned with a dropper post and mud guards . The former is particularly needed by ladies, who are often more cautious on steep slopes. So, dear couples - make sure that both ride equivalent equipment!

My Bike & I = A MTB Love Story!

Are we humans made for monogamy? Romantics, scientists and philosophers can continue to argue about this. But if we apply this topic to our human-bicycle relationships, we can observe many different designs. Valentine's Day is all about the couple model, so we will focus on that below. Even if many bikers can only smile wearily at this, there are quite a few cycling friends who admit to having developed a kind of personal relationship with their faithful vehicle. This even goes so far that the two-wheeled companions are given a nickname. The explanation for these phenomena is of course very obvious. Because, as with a human couple relationship, you go up and down on two wheels over mountain peaks and through dark valleys. Physical exertion to the limit, hormone secretions and the flow state of being together - "my bike and me" - weld the bike and the rider even closer together.

As an example, I like to cite my 2003 freeride full suspension bike. Back then, as a 17-year-old, I had the privilege of specifying every single tube length to the frame builder. The Pulcro was constructed according to my ideas and the starting signal for a long journey together was given. 2004 was the year of storm and stress for my robust bike beneath me and for me in the search for higher and further jumps. My greatest tests of courage were my trust that my Pulcro would not let me down and could also handle hard impacts. Road gaps, BMX doubles, stair gaps - my list of stunts was long and I was super happy that I had been able to overcome my fears. But setbacks and low blows were also part of it, and my steel steed had to take a lot of punishment too. At the Roman Gap in Cologne, I jumped too far and landed crookedly. The double crown fork put a dent in the head tube and I felt like I couldn't breathe for two minutes because of the impact on the Roman cobblestones. But we both pulled ourselves together and only a long period of injury caused by tendon sheath overload forced us to take a break. The Pulcro accompanied me faithfully and selflessly through difficult phases. Of course, I looked after it with oil and rags, because in the following years we spent more time on trails in the forest in all weathers - the enduro phase had begun and by 2011 I was even taking part in XC and marathon races on the 20 kg steel bomber. First video shoots on the subject of riding technique, a trip to the Alps and the start of my work as a coach for MTB courses meant that the list of shared experiences continued to grow. So much so that this text could be much longer. The long-term relationship continues, even if there are a few other bikes in the basement - when the weather is nice, they go out into nature together again and it will probably stay that way until the end of their lives!
