As repeat offenders, we - our mixed team of four - went to Duisburg last weekend, August 6th/7th, 2016, for our last 24-hour race of the year. As usual, it was nice and cozy in the paddock 🙂 , but we were able to place our two WoWas and two tents well thanks to our early arrival. We ended the first evening together with food and drink, although we were still slightly doubtful about the weather... cold oO... compared to last year.
The race
We started the next day well rested and with lots of coffee. The starting signal was fired at 12 p.m. and of course I was back in position 3, my favorite position! We decided to always complete three rounds in a row. Despite the “few” meters of altitude, these kilometers should not be underestimated. That means: Even over 24 kilometers you can pretty much destroy yourself 😀 . But we wanted to last a long time...
I was visibly dissatisfied with my first ride: I lost a few minutes per lap due to traffic jams before a narrow descent. Only the sixth lap with a time of 17:30 was anything close to realistic.
After the first few hours we were amazed when we saw the ranking: 3rd place!!! Ohhhh, there's something else going on!!!
At dusk the route was shortened again and everything ran like clockwork. I was now satisfied with my lap times, I already had a time of 16 🙂 . I'm starting to feel like I'm getting used to this type of interval training. My legs and metabolism gave me a best time on my last lap!
Of course I also looked at the times of the other girls on the track and I think I'm the fastest lady by a few seconds! Check!
Our placement
And the best thing: We not only defended our third place, but were also able to get the silver medal! Super proud and satisfied, we were all allowed to go on stage, practically beaming with the sun.
With many great impressions - the landscape park at dusk, at night and at dawn offers a unique backdrop - we drove back to the Sauerland in the evening.
